Oklahoma City is currently hosting the NBA’s latest WOW Tournament, with two first-year big men, Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren, taking the court for the marquee game in the night’s lineup. Wembanyama is showcasing his skills near center court while the cameras follow his every move, and Holmgren warms up courtside early before his scheduled time.
Both rookies are starters and the league’s prospective future stars. They have been linked since 2021 when they faced off on the court for the first time. While both players didn’t score double digits in Tuesday’s game, they are still considered as the top contenders for Rookie of the Year.
Though their franchises may differ in history and identity, they both have unique traditions and embrace change. Each team has embraced and adapted to the skills of their star players. Popovich relinquished control to Wembanyama, allowing him to create his own presence, while San Antonio has embraced change with new jerseys and a new general manager. Presti, Oklahoma City’s general manager, has also adapted to new obsessions, and Holmgren may well change the franchise going forward.
Though the game was highly anticipated, the match did not live up to expectations. The game finished without the much-anticipated clash between the two players, leaving fans and eager spectators disappointed.
