The A’s appoint Jenny Cavnar as MLB’s first female primary play-by-play announcer

Jenny Cavnar is achieving great success in her broadcasting career, and she is now making history as the Oakland A’s play-by-play announcer, becoming the first female primary play-by-play voice in MLB history.

Upon her hiring announcement by the A’s, Cavnar expressed her excitement and gratitude, stating, “It is a dream come true to join the broadcast team for the Oakland A’s and their rich baseball history. Growing up the daughter of a baseball coach, I have loved the game from a young age, along with the stories, history, and relationships the game provides.”

Cavnar will be working alongside NBC Sports California color commentator Dallas Braden, who welcomed her to the broadcast booth in a video on social media.

Cavnar’s new role with the Oakland A’s follows her 12-year tenure as a Colorado Rockies reporter, backup play-by-play announcer, and pregame and postgame host. She made history in April 2018 as the first woman in 25 years to call TV play-by-play for an MLB game when the Rockies hosted the San Diego Padres.

In addition to baseball, Cavnar has experience calling men’s and women’s college basketball and has previously covered the Anaheim Ducks and San Diego State University athletics.

Braden on teaming up with Cavnar

Cavnar and Braden have been close friends for many years. Braden acknowledges her elite knowledge of the game and expresses his excitement to work alongside her.

They have had conversations about the team dating back to the end of the last season. Braden believes in Cavnar’s work ethic and professionalism and is confident in her ability to succeed in her new role.

The work begins this spring for the A’s new TV broadcast crew, and for Braden, it’s a dream come true.
