Lee Isaac Chung is the director of “Twisters” and in this scene, which happens halfway through the film, we see T4 – tornado number four. The characters Kate and Tyler are played by Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell respectively. Other actors in this sequence include James Paxton, son of Bill Paxton, Lily Smith, daughter of writer Mark L. Smith, Samantha Ireland, Aila Grey, and Jeff Swearingen as the hapless desk clerk.
Chung wanted to capture the fear of a night tornado, a nod to his upbringing in tornado alley. Special effects by Scott Fisher added to the realism, with rigged props and stunts creating intense moments. The set was carefully destroyed to show the aftermath of the tornado, with crew members working simultaneously with the actors. The swimming pool scene was particularly challenging, with debris falling and a trailer slamming into the pool edge.
Despite the loud and intense scenes, the actors were praised for their professionalism. Chung credits Geoff Haley, the camera operator, for his technical expertise in capturing the chaotic and seamless moments in the sequence.
