Police in the Philippines have captured Apollo Quiboloy, a fugitive Filipino preacher wanted for sexual abuse and human trafficking in both the Philippines and the United States. Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. announced Quiboloy’s surrender along with four others at their religious compound in Davao city. Quiboloy, who claims to be an “appointed son of God,” has been in hiding since warrants were issued for his arrest in April. The arrest followed a months-long manhunt that focused on the church’s compound in Davao, where Quiboloy’s followers attempted to block a police raid with violent acts. After the arrest, Quiboloy was flown to Quezon City for detention.
In addition to facing charges in the Philippines, Quiboloy also faces serious charges in the U.S., where he is accused of having sex with women, including underage girls, under threats of abuse and eternal damnation. Despite denying all charges against him, Quiboloy and several others have been indicted on charges of sex trafficking, fraud, money laundering, and more. Quiboloy’s close ties to former President Rodrigo Duterte have raised questions about potential political motivations behind his arrest.
Quiboloy’s capture follows the recent arrest of Alice Guo in Indonesia, another high-profile figure wanted in connection with illegal activities. Both cases have garnered attention due to their ties to ongoing investigations and political relationships in the Philippines.
