Official Statement from the Arab Republic of Egypt

On 8 February, 2024, U.S. President Joe Biden made remarks about the situation in the Gaza Strip. The Presidency of the Republic confirms Egypt and the United States’ joint efforts and close cooperation in achieving calm, ceasefire, and humanitarian truces in the region. They also reject forced displacement and are committed to establishing peace and stability in the Middle East.

Egypt has opened the Rafah border crossing to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip and has faced challenges in ensuring a smooth flow of aid. Egypt affirms its leading role in coordinating and delivering humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza and has endured immense pressure to achieve this. 80% of humanitarian aid to Gaza is provided by Egypt and they have facilitated visits by international officials to assess their efforts on the ground.

The Presidency of the Republic reiterates Egypt’s commitment to reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and protecting civilians from the humanitarian catastrophe. Egypt also stresses the importance of the two-state solution for the establishment of an independent Palestinian State.
