Angola, as the second largest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa, is strategically positioned to become a regional hub for petroleum distribution. Plans for over 400,000 barrels per day (bpd) of refining capacity in the country, along with cross-border pipeline infrastructure and regional trade systems, aim to solidify Angola’s regional role.
At the Angola Oil&Gas (AOG) conference&exhibition, scheduled for October 2-3 in Luanda, speakers from the Angolan and regional downstream sectors will discuss the country’s project pipeline. These industry experts will share insights on the strategies being implemented to position Angola as a regional hub, as well as addressing challenges related to intra-African trade and highlighting investment opportunities in the country.
AOG is the largest oil and gas event in Angola, supported by key industry stakeholders. To sponsor or participate as a delegate, please contact sales@energycapitalpower.com.
Anticipated milestones include the first phase of the Cabinda refinery coming online by the end of 2024, with a capacity of 30,000 bpd. The facility is set to reach full operational capacity of 60,000 bpd by 2025, with the Lobito Refinery and the Soyo refinery also commencing production around the same time. The Lobito Refinery will have a capacity of 200,000 bpd, while the Soyo refinery will have a capacity of 100,000 bpd.
As Angola expands its refining capacity, efforts are being made to strengthen intra-African petroleum trade. Organizations like the African Refiners and Distributors Association (ARDA) provide a platform for collaboration among African refiners, distributors, and global investors. Sonangol, Angola’s national oil company, is a member of ARDA and will be discussed during AOG 2024.
Leading the way in petroleum distribution, retailers like Pumangol are committed to enhancing fuel security in Angola. Pumangol’s CEO will share insights into the company’s goals and the future of Angola’s downstream sector at AOG 2024.
In addition to oil, Angola is focusing on becoming a hub for LNG. The Angola LNG facility has been a key player in gas monetization and is expected to contribute significantly to regional LNG trade in the future. AOG 2024 will feature discussions on Angola’s role as a regional LNG supplier.
CITAC, a specialist consulting company, supports projects in the African downstream industry. Providing services such as training, consultancy, market reports, and data analysis, CITAC helps clients unlock business potential in Angola and beyond. Executive Director Elitsa Georgieva will be speaking at AOG 2024, leading a workshop on demand and supply trends for refined production in Africa.
